Ed, you just reminded me of something regarding my situation.
Two years ago, I installed a MMSI radio on Hydro-Therapy and tied it in to the
chartplotter (for GPS Lat/Lon). When I let the boat go I removed that radio
(replacing it with my 'original' VHF) and now have the "new" VHF here at home.
My intent is to install that MMSI radio on Captiva. I assume the MMSI follows
the radio but who do I contact to inform them that the radio is (or will be in
a few weeks) installed on a different boat. This assumes that I should be
reporting that fact to someone.
Does anyone know the answer to that or what website I may be able to go to in
order to change the radio's location to the new boat?

Subject: [Liveaboard] Fire onboard / Radio use
I have read at least one insurance report of a boatload of guys
a little ways offshore who were saved when a fire started in their
engine room and one of the guys had the presence of mind to
immediately push the red DISTRESS button on their VHF on
the way to fighting the fire.
In their case within a couple minutes the fire was out of control
and no one would have been able to get back to the radio to
send out a Mayday. But the radio had already done it for them.
If you have registered your vessel and programed in your MMSI
number your VHF will transmit your ID and location to other
vessels within range and it could save a life. As fires can get
out of control quickly, I was impressed with the wisdom of using
all tools at our disposal.
