Somebody please remind me why I (actually we, including my brother) signed up to host and moderate this list? Oh yeah, it is all of that money we get from the ads (not). Or is it the other benefits rolling through the front door? Don't think so. Or maybe it is the opportunity to be a famous list moderator and get our names in the listserv hall of fame. Yes, that is it! No, in fact, it for the sole purpose of providing a beneficial forum for the sharing of boating related information to be shared by mature, intelligent, and passionate adults who share a common dream, fantasy, or reality of living aboard and cruising in sailboats [oh yeah, power boats too :-) ]
Anyway, back to the moderator stuff... Guys and gals, please be thoughtful with your posts. I hate having to play moderator. I just want to be another boating guy. I hate censorship. I love freedom of speech. But it all comes with a bit of responsibility. Keep the topics to boat related stuff. And don't play the "I can stretch this into a boating thing because I talked about US presidents on my boat once so it is now a boating topic" game. Before you hit the send button, please ask yourself if you are helping the good of the list or just adding a bunch of non-boating crap. We all know we can't all agree on stuff like politics, religion, guns, and a host of other non-boating topics. So keep them on the forums set up for those type of discussions. If someone does post something that you think is not appropriate for this list, then address them directly, off list. Flame each other off-list as much as you like. But spare us. The only reason these things continue on list is because folks think they have to speak their mind in an open forum and get consensus. No, do that on your own time and stop feeding the wasted bandwidth scenario. How can we have issue with a few extra spaces at the bottom of the list or in someone's signature and then turn around and write back and forth 10 postings about a topic we all know is not proper for this forum? You all know when you are over the line, make my life easier and do the right thing... Now, can I go back to fantasizing about getting my boat back in the water and sailing over to the Florida west coast? It takes my mind off of the cost of that bottom job... -- **************************** Sam Densler mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] http://www.islandfx.com/lady S/V Lady of the Lake PDQ 36, Hull #15 Melbourne, FL S/V Stories She Could Tell Endeavour 37, Hull #454 Destroyed by Hurricane Frances 2004 Reborn and sailing again in 2007 **************************** "If you ever wonder why you ride the carousel, you do it for the stories you can tell."
