Hi All,

We've been at the Port of Iberia, La for a while, getting things
ready. The parish (county) marina here is getting a bit crazy,
changing the rules so that they're responsible for nothing and you
are for everything, won't allow you to hire anybody to work on your
boat, etc. Cut out liveaboards as well.

Due to some family concerns, we want to stay in the US for a while. I
agree that Florida is getting very unfriendly. A friend in Pensacola
mentioned even they're getting that way.

Not a lot of anchorages in Louisiana that are within 30 miles of
civilization, except around New Orleans, and not many marinas that a
6 1/2 ft draft can get into, again except for around New Orleans.

Soooo.. We looked around and decided we're going to visit Texas for a
while. In a marina due to the cold (yeah, I know the northerners on
the list don't find 50's and 40's at night cold!). Every marina we
checked there was OK or even encouraged liveaboards. We settled on
Port Lavaca. We looked at Port Isabel first 'cause it's warmer and
right next to Mexico, but guess it's really touristy because the
marinas were unaffordable. The one we found totals $225 a month - 50
ft slip, electricity and $30 a head liveaboard fee. A little town
with a super WalMart, marine store, restaurants, etc. within easy
walking distance.

I just wanted to throw Texas in as a place to be.
