I was born in Baltimore, and lived there until I went to college.
After Bob retired and we both got jobs in Baltimore - him at the
Department of the Environment over on Broening Highway and me at the
Department of Licensing and Regulation on St. Paul Place, we lived in
Baltimore (actually in Brooklyn/Curtis Bay) until I retired in 2000.
My job require that I work all over the state and that included in
Baltimore, and when I wasn't in the field, I was in the office. My
mom lived in Towson until she died in 2006, and I stayed with her
sometimes, and after she died, it took us over a year to clean out her
house and I drove up to the city twice every week. I go to Baltimore
to the dentist as there is no periodonist down here.

Actually the flag is being repaired and reconditioned - they are
undoing all the repair work that was done prior to current practice.

I sincerely doubt that DC is that much better regardless of what the
statistics say. If you are the victim, the statistics have no
meaning. If you are not, ditto.

I went to DC with a co-worker to a conference and asked him if we
should take his car or mine (since the person whose car was driving
would get mileage). He said we should go in mine, as he didn't want
his car trashed. I have a policy of never leaving anything in the car
in sight when I park anywhere. I do not drive a station wagon or
pickup truck with a cap for that reason. This is true in Baltimore,
Washington, Annapolis, city or county, or suburb.

Incidentally, my clueless co-worker Mike was held up as he was walking
home. Someone came up with a gun and said "give me your wallet". Mike
grabbed the gun from the guy and decked him. The guy then got up,
grabbed the gun back and ran back across the street and shot Mike. (He
survived - he just has a bullet near his spine too close to operate).

But really - crime is everywhere. There was a young man found
murdered in the woods behind our house here - no one ever has been
charged for the murder. One of my former students got a gun and
killed an assistant bank manager in the course of a robbery.

If you want mooring balls, you could anchor, but then you wouldn't
have electricity for heat.

We sold my mom's house July 2007. I haven't been back much since
because there's no reason for me to go now. But that isn't that long
ago.

In any case, in the tourist areas like around the Inner Harbor it's
nice in the summer.
