The entire object of the rules of writing: spelling, grammar, punctuation,
general layout and design and special effects such as all-caps, italics, bold,
underlined, etc., is to facilitate the flow of thoughts from the mind of the
writer to the mind of the reader.

Poor writing makes the flow jerky with interruptions caused by the reader
trying to figure out just what the writer is trying to say.

Good writing, carefully crafted, shows respect for the reader by not forcing
him to make up for the writer's inept and/or lazy efforts at communication.

I am partial to graceful writing because it makes it easy for me to understand
the writer and a pleasure to experience.

That's pretty funny, Norm.

I had no idea you were partial to
a literate author's graceful use of
CAPS and ellipses...

As compared to what?

Other than that, 'sok.

Other than that... my apologies.

Norm,

Put away your red pencil and perhaps you'll
see Melinda's contribution to the thread.

Melinda, seems Norm is having a bad day.

"if they become occluded, "

What a delight to read such a literate author on the list. Loved the
graceful use of all-caps, parentheses, and ellipses too...

Norm is par norm...or is that par Norm? hahaha

"Occluded" was properly used but I missed the all-caps, etc....must be my
embedded HTML word editor making everything "right" without interference
from me.

we live aboard in the inner harbor, i work as a nurse full time and yes, the
weather can be problematic but we have found it not too inconvenient even with
the ice. lots of jobs here and the pay is soooo much better than florida. see
escapeartist.com/living aboard and cruising if you need some tips.

This is a very cute story .. sea story ... about boats.. that kids will
like.. or adults..
http://www.saudiaramcoworld.com/issue/200901/i.the.sea.tramp.htm

The magazine it is from is put out by Saudi Armaco.. its free online or in
print.. the search function has all kids of interesting stories..
for those who cook there are many articles on food and cooking herbs..
history of Dhows, andother water related issues..
and a lot more.. It is worth bookmarking..
For those who do living history...lots of stuff to document your costuming
and other things.. one of my favorite reads..
enjoy everyone
