A good expensive attorney might make the case that, being in storage (as
opposed to floating in-use) you shouldn't be banged for the tax since it was
technically "in transit" (if I remember it's not in NY any more????). But I
honestly doubt it since 1) you're a NY resident, 2) the boat was brought to NY
regardless of whether or not it was used prior to re-sale.
But then again, I'm not an attorney, accountant, or tax maven!!! I just use
logic which doesn't necessarily apply when dealing with state authorities <g>!

I finally got to the bottom of the sales tax payment request. NYS wants tax
paid on a boat I bought in 2002 in FL that was in storage in NY 2006 to 08
while it was for sale. Does anyone know if this is correct for them to ask for?
