That was true until fairly recently but with the newer solid state dc-ac-dc converters,(not electrical mechanical motor-gen sets of yesteryear) dc transmission is possible and is being done more and more. In fact there is a very large capacity dc transmission line that powers a good deal of Manhattan. The semiconductor device that handles the electrical power for the line is about the size of a pencil eraser, mounted on a very big active heat sink! -Ken _______________________________________________ Liveaboard mailing list [email protected] To adjust your membership settings over the web http://www.liveaboardnow.org/mailman/listinfo/liveaboard To subscribe send an email to [email protected] To unsubscribe send an email to [email protected] The archives are at http://www.liveaboardnow.org/pipermail/liveaboard/ To search the archives http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected] The Mailman Users Guide can be found here http://www.gnu.org/software/mailman/mailman-member/index.html
