Hi Steve, I would recommend coming down inside thru biscayne bay. Stop at Boca Chica, or Eliot key, good anchorage and marina. In Key Largo you have Gilberts at the jewfish creek bridge, where you can marina at a rediculus price or anchor out. Nice bar, local. good food inside, bar food outside. Not walkable to anything however. Tarpon basin has good anchorages and now has shore assess at the orange and white Government center on the east shore. Follow your charts to get in to the anchorages and the government center is only accessible by dink. Walkable to hardware store north and publixs south. If you do stop here give me acall and I can give you a ride to either or west marine. We love anchoring at the lorilie anchorage, walkable to the lorilie, world wide sportsman, and my favorite bar/restruant, the whistle stop! You can also use the mooring balls at lungumvite key. If weather permits, go outside at the channel 5 bridge and to into boot key marina and grab a mooring ball. Fun place , bars on the water, water taxi , and fun boating community. If you have any questions feel free to ask.
