My situation is simple. My Cruisair 11,000BTU integrated A/C unit has been
leaking R-22 to the point where it now only holds it for two days having
started as a one year leak. At a cost of $500, the coil has been replaced.
All work done by one well-qualified man. My 16,000BTU aft unit died after 25
years. With 5 fans (one exhausting through the forward hatch and protected
by an awning) on a 40 foot sedan trawler, I've been able to survive, but
this has been very difficult for George, my Golden Retriever. The same
repairman is over-loaded and cannot promise when he can visit us to add
SuperSeal. It has been getting hotter here in Washington, North Carolina.

So, I am making my bi-monthly visit to the Durham VA hospital and,
therefore, to COSTCO. Last time there I spotted an Optima AGM Blue Top D34M
battery for $144.95 and good to run an electric trolling motor. This time I
saw a Sharp indoor, portable, 10,000BTU A/C unit for around $400 after
rebate. 95 pound shipping weight, but once out of its cardboard box, easily
moveable on its preinstalled casters. It is plugged into a regular AC socket
and is almost silent! It is slender, a little fat front to back, and about
40" tall. It is a highly effective unit. George has stopped panting and
worrying his fur. The unit is sitting in the former master stateroom head
with its exhaust tube connected to a convenient porthole. I searched on
Google and found that most places sell the 11,500 and 12,500 BTU units in
the $600 range. So, if relevant to your situation, check them out as they
are cheaper, more powerful, and quieter than the Cruisair Carry-on unit and
various other RV rooftop units.
