Did you buy the most expensive battery you could find or did you select a
'good price deal'?
Why did it take over three years to realize the warranty was only for one
year.
These days of disposable consumer equipment , having it last more than
three times its warranty period is pretty good. Everybody builds products
to a price point because this is what people look for when making a purchase
decision.
Trojan is middle of the road. Some of their products are great. But they
also make a huge volume of stuff sold to low price retailers who only care
to offer a brand name at the lowest possible price to get the sales.

On a technical note. Why did the battery fail? Did it actually short out
or did it stop taking a charge.
Batteries can short out for several reasons. Warped plates due to high
temps, either ambient or from continual trickle charging. Plates can short
out if enough plate shedding takes place, or if the case is subjected to
even a single impact shock, or continued but minute vibration.
I have fished Trojans out of the dumpster and rejuvenated them. Some but
not all of them responmd to recovery procedures.
I have also had good brand name batteries short out. Upon dismantling the
battery I found plate shedding was the culprit.
