I've never been to the Fairport Marina which is actually in Fairport
on the northwest side of Cockrell Creek, and not Reedville. We were
set to go once two years ago, but their pump out wasn't working and
Bob said that was a crock - that they made their money on fuel and
didn't want to bother with pump-out. Plus the restaurant isn't open
Sunday afternoon/evening, and it is kind of isolated to walk to
anywhere else.

We've been to the

Reedville Marina (in front of the Crazy Crab) each time we've been to
Reedville (when we went to a marina - we've also anchored in some of
the tributaries of the Great Wicomico i.e. Mill Creek and Fishing
Bay.)

The disadvantage of the Reedville marina is that no one monitors the
radio, and since the restaurant is closed Monday and sometimes also
Tuesday there's no one to answer the phone either. Plus of course no
one to help with docking.

We do like the Crazy Crab and have enjoyed the food. I think if you
eat there, they don't charge you for the dockage while you are eating.
We like to walk up Main Street i.e. "Millionaire's Row" where the

mansions are now on the National Register of Historic Places at least
as far as the museum from there. http://www.rfmuseum.org/

When we were there in August, they were having an Antique and Classic
Boat Show and boats were on display on trailers and also at the docks
behind most of the houses on Main Street.

Cockrells Creek Seafood Deli

Reedville is a significant charter fishing center for Chesapeake Bay
bluefish and rockfish with more than 50 boats operating out of the
area. The Reedville Steamboat Wharf

which is right down on the end of Main Street next to the Reedville
Marina.. They sell chum and ice for fishermen, and you can also come
and buy fish fresh off the boat

There's also Virginia Seafood Products plant for processing fish
(which also sells bait and tackle and possibly fish), next to
Reedville Marina on the site of the old Reed's Wharf which was the
original site of the Reed factory.

Many of the buildings that were here were destroyed by fire in 1925.

I've never smelled the plant because I've been upwind whenever it was
operating. Menhaden fishing has declined until there is only the one
Omega Protein plant remaining on Cockrell Creek where there used to be
20 different plants. The plant is actually in Tibitha.

The southeast end of the peninsula across from Fairport is called
Fleeton. I was talking to someone about being 'from' Reedville and he
said he'd talked to an old lady and asked her if she was from
Reedville. She said that she was, but she'd moved away for a long time
and had just come back.

"Where do you move to?" he asked.

"Fleeton," was the answer.

These are some of the old menhaden boats
