I'll try to get you everything I know.  This will take some time 
because I have no way to take files off the computer, so I must 
type everything from the screen (I can do this for lspci and 
dmesg).  I might be able to get you a "working config," both Damn 
Small Linux and LFS LiveCD 6.2-5 have worked on this machine, but 
what exactly do you want, and will I be able to type it from the 
screen?

Yes, it's probably around ten years old (I'll send you all the 
specs).  I remember dmesg on 6.2-5 revealing that hlt was handled 
properly, but I'll try in case we're not thinking of the same 
thing.

I thought Linux has excellent legacy support.  Are you saying that 
the newer LiveCDs are becoming too new for my hardware?
