The computer giving me problems is a Toshiba Satellite Pro 430CDT. I've sent you a PM with an attached PDF of the manufacturer's specs. However it's no longer in the stock configuration; it now has 32MB of memory, a 3 GB hard drive, and no floppy drive.
>Doesn't this computer have a floppy, a network card (the LiveCD never >attempts to autodetect ISA cards) or a serial port? I do have a network card, but I wasn't sure I'd be able to configure things to accept an ftp connection. I eventually realized that I have some remote storage where I can upload the files, so it's no longer a problem. The PM I've sent you also contains the dmesg files from both LFS LiveCD 6.2-5 and Damn Small Linux (careful though because DSL seems to load things like usb support when this computer clearly doesn't support usb). To my surprise, this computer apparently doesn't use PCI. "lspci - v", "lspci -vv", and "lspci -vvv" all exited quietly running 6.2-5, and all gave the following response when running DSL: pcilib: Cannot open /proc/bus/pci lspci: Cannot find any working access method. >If you do not understand how to compile a kernel and what the "kernel >config" means, you should not use the LFS LiveCD. As I mentionned in my first post, I haven't made it very far into the LFS book. If you think I'm lacking knowledge I should have before I begin, then I'll do some reading on the subject. The whole reason I'm trying to work through LFS is to learn what I don't know, and I'm happy to do so. >I ask you to download >the 2.6.22.5 kernel, compile it so that it works on your computer, and >send the .config file produced by "make menuconfig" in the kernel tree. Is it possible to do this from the 6.2-5 LFS LiveCD without building the entire toolchain in LFS chapter 5? >Waiting for the specs. A screenshot of Windows device manager (if you >have Windows) will be helpful. Sorry, there is no OS on it now, and since I use Smart Boot Manager to boot from CD, I can't allow anything to overwrite my MBR. -- Click to learn how to become a world famous writer or poet. http://tagline.hushmail.com/fc/Ioyw6h4d5YXemhA1IlfSzq0YQhGZLW2OcEhwcbo1CXKRTXKBsdD5c7/ -- http://linuxfromscratch.org/mailman/listinfo/livecd FAQ: http://www.linuxfromscratch.org/faq/ Unsubscribe: See the above information page
