Ffv1 is the only truly lossless format offered. But...
Some of the others are pretty high quality though, e.g. x264, or
ogg/theora/vorbis in multi_encoder. Mullti_encoder also offers the dirac
format which is very high quality, open codec, in fact the BBC use it for
archiving purposes. In fact as I was wrting this, I realised the dirac
encoder could do with a rework, so I have now added in audio encoding to
it. So now you can create dirac video files with vorbis audio in a matroska
container. For the latter you will need to install oggtools and mkvtoolnix
packages first. You can then select the appropriate format from
multi_encoder.
Anyway, if you like, update from svn and try a few different encoders /
formats.
