Yeah, I think it can be a bit conflicting of a message for FOSS to start
offering these types of things in competition.  It's like PETA giving away
chicken tenders... :)

But that said, there is some free VSTs which we could potentially buy the
source code for and re-release as GPL (this may be a slippery slope too).
 I started some dialog about this with some authors and one of them in
particular was willing to offer the source code but he currently lives off
of the revenue he gets from advertisements so he was looking for some form
of compensation...

But back on topic, a timed competition sounds like a great idea.  Perhaps
the Avelocity members would be interested in playing a part in this...

If we pick a date, let myself, Unfa, Uros or Stain know and we can start
promoting it on Facebook as well.
