I think what you are asking is whether or not the lmms version's patches
are specific to lmms and I think the obvious answer is "yes, the lmms
version's patches are specif to lmms". lmms loads these from a "plugins"
directory seemingly for these reasons.
I'm growing quite puzzled about both the gentoo and ubuntu building
questions since they don't really explain any end goal or any steps that
are being taken. When I see source being stored in /var/tmp I grow even
more confused. :)
I think this is all part of a portage process that I don't entirely
understand, but these steps are usually sequential and they usually follow
a standardized process. Giving us a better view on what's happening could
certainly help us understand the motives behind your questions. :)
