Also, what you are describing.... Gimp tried this very thing (you know, the
maintainers of GTK) and in comparison to Photoshop, it was done terribly
since the dialogs don't float properly and their default size and
decoration are just way too big.  Furthermore, Ubuntu's global file menu
hides the gimp options when the toolbar is active.  It's absolutely
terrible.

Qt may have a better way of doing this but I would expect some very hackish
extensions on top of QMdiArea or perhaps a 3rd party interface for this.  I
want this behavior too but its not something I see in other Qt apps so an
example would be much better than a written description at this point.
Please draw a mockup.
