Sure, of course it would be optional. I was thinking more about the main
toolbar though, autohiding can be a bit tricky for the subwindows
because then we have to deal with window size and changing layout...
with the main toolbar, autohide could work just like an autohiding
taskbar or dock.

Well yeah, but just because they're duplicate functionality doesn't mean
we need to hide them. If there isn't any tangible benefit from hiding
them, then it's just additional complexity with no clear purpose...

Well, I don't think it would actually require very huge changes. From
what I gather, all we need to do is divide the current toolbar layout
into two horizontal layouts, and then add both of those layouts into
another layout which can be switched to either horizontal or vertical
according to window width, so that the sub-layouts are either
side-to-side or on top of each other. Perhaps we could also subclass a
QLayout to create a convenience class for implementing the same thing in
various windows.
