Actually, there's nothing wrong in Linux sound per se. Linux sound
systems are actually in many ways better than on mac/windows.

Instead of the mac/windows approach of "one sound system for everything"
we actually have the option of different soundsystems for different
purposes. PA is not bad, it's just not designed for rt-audio. It has
other qualities that the PA devs consider more important - and from
their perspective they probably are.

Again, you don't have to switch the whole system to ALSA. It's enough to
just use the ALSA backend and set it to use your sound device directly
in LMMS. This way PA keeps out of the way.

If the problems with our Jack backend were fixed, then we could also use
Jack, and configure PA to use Jack as a backend whenever Jack is active,
so that you could use both "pro-audio" and "desktop audio" at the same
time, just like on windows. It isn't even hard at all to configure on
Ubuntu, there are instructions with very few easy steps. I have my
system set up that way, and other applications that use Jack work
flawlessly alongside with browser videos and such, even at the same time
if I wish.

Sadly our Jack backend isn't quite up to par and I don't know enough
about Jack to be able to fix those issues...
