Before we buy a domain it would be nice to make an initiative to refresh
our web page.
The current page was built long before mobile browsers were prominent so
does not scale well with smaller page sizes. Furthermore, it could use a
re-branding effort to bring it modern with our 1.0 software palette and
leverage some niceties with more recent versions of CSS.
I'd like to kick off this initiative and also nominate myself to lead.
I propose myself to lead this because I can write php and I feel I can
coordinate our talents to get this done in a timely fashion. If we march
forward, this is what I propose:
Content: (some of this has been started)
- A new home page which auto-feeds the following items:
- Release notes from GitHub using api.github
- Downloads from GitHub using api.github
- A community page which auto-feeds:
- News from Facebook using Graph API (may also appear on front page)
- Bugs (recently added or highly active) from GitHub tracker using
api.github
- Travis-CI build status
- Devel mailing list topics (recently added or highly active) from
internet archive
- A demo's page which contains:
- LMMS Artist album widget
- Playable demo tracks (html5, et al)
- A slightly restyled LSP to match the new design (content would remain
the same).
- Add-free forums converted to vanilla phpbb3
- Designate moderators
- Designate fixing of sf accounts to stand-alone account.
Design:
- Boostrap CSS for layout, minimal JavaScript when needed for mobile
(disabling JS won't break page functionality)
- Shared menu bar with drop-downs as needed (direct links to popular
developer and community resources without navigating to a dedicated page).
- Leverage responsive, industry standard layout techniques to flow
properly on various screen sizes.
- Branding and content delivery improvements (make best use of space,
offer elements in order of popularity, etc).

Please provide your thoughts or even a yay/nay if that's easier. I think a
two week timeline is reasonable given the amount of progress we've already
had and based on the team of helpers.
Some disclaimers... :) Without going too off-topic, the developer
community is well aware that we are looking to get a domain name and
hosting. Those decisions are still up in the air. I'd instead like this
discussion to talk about the high-level refresh of the home page.
Furthermore, the LSP rewrite is still underway which will have some
duplication of effort. LukasW is aware and we've agreed to allow this
natural overlap.
