Thanks for reminding me. I will publish the release notes. Yes, we can update to Java 7 - at least as far as I am concerned.
At the same time we should also set a tentative target for Java 8 and publish it. In looking at [1] I am thinking we would support Java 7 until mid 2018, unless circumstances warrant changing sooner.
