Okay. To be honest I had some reservations on moving to Java 7 because I
didn't see anything we cannot accomplish in Java 6, so it would just cause
inconvenience to (some) users without much upside.

On the other hand, we don't want to be tied to old technology forever, and
we can reduce the inconvenience with clear documentation on which older
versions of log4j2 can be used with Java 6, and a roadmap for future
upgrades. I like the roadmap idea because it gives users advance notice.
(Note Ralph proposed an outer bound and we may choose to upgrade sooner if
we think it advantageous.)

It is unfortunate that this announcement is only in the release email and
not anywhere on the site.
A lot of people may miss this and only hear about it in the next release.
It is not easy to modify the site without doing a release, is it?

For the next release we need to update quite a few pages on the site:

   - http://logging.apache.org/log4j/2.x/changelog.html
   - The top page of every component.

This page also seems like a natural place to mention our required java
version: http://logging.apache.org/log4j/2.x/runtime-dependencies.html
