The problem is that if you have the log 4j 1.2 in your classpath then the
Category class will be used from that jar file and the implementation of the
Category in 1.2 refers to Logger. Hence remove the log4j 1.2 reference from
your classpath or even better remove the log 4j 1.2 from your system.
