Odd. It worked fine for me under 5.6.0.

Hmmmm. try the beta at:

        http://www.csse.monash.edu.au/~damian/CPAN/Getopt-Declare.tar.gz

and if that still doesn't work, send me the exact file you're having
difficulty with, as well as your 'perl -v' data.
