It's been in use for years in Germany -- the only way to obtain { [ ] } \ ~
| on a standard German computer keyboard. (As well as less common characters
such as � � �.)

And the euro is AltGr+E in most Microsoft layouts IIRC. (It is in the German
layout.) Ah, right: see

who're different are "Greek Latin", "Hungarian", "Irish", "Latvia QWERTY",
"Polish", "United Kingdom", and "US International", probably because they
already had something on AltGr+E.
