When I disabled the option to test it, it disappeared after not very long. So I think I can do without the spinner, or if I used it, 60 s should be enough (though shorter intervals are safer, I think). (And it pleases me particularly that I can do this with only PuTTY, since both the proxy support and the keep-alive bits are supported "natively".)
