Everything I've seen on that issue indicates that it's a danger only for those who have an allergic reaction to the mercury traces. That said I am not confident that sufficient (any?) real research has been carried out on the long term effects. It's not possible to composite for all filings either which is a problem for those of us who have needed root canal filing work.
