Assalamualaikum First of all please accept my sincerest felicitation on the advent of Ramadan al Kareem and also that you are a new channel with a difference. I live in the UK but do come to Pakistan every year and spend some time visiting family, friends and enjoy the warmth which still exists here and where people talk freely.
I could not see much of your this particular programme but your last night's programme with Mohsin Sayeed was good and raised many issues ; each of which needs special episodes. As a student and active participant of Pakistani politics since the struggle for this noble homeland one thing is very clear ; we could not instill in the people the spirit of one nation and the fundamentals of good citizenship and Islam has been only a superficial cover. We do criticise the religious seminaries for many of our current trouble but we do not want to send children fro the affluent class to these seminaries and the result is that most of its students come from far flung deprived areas where the parents find it a better place for their kids future as at least two square meals and clothing are assured. The little reform that has taken place in Mush era needs to be thorough rather an overhauling is necessary. In Muslims glorious days these very Madrassas were producing scientists , physicists, astronomers , historians and jurists but not now. So please continue or do more of such programs as I feel since 9 March 2007 the whole nation has been systematically so much politicized that it needs a change NOW otherwuse we all will become embroiled in picking trouble with every one and amking life in Pakistan dangerous to live. Now your other programme aired a few days earlier was about Culture and you were discussing the issue with two young persons; one male and the other female. In this programme you said and your panelists agreed with you by saying that Culture has no relationship with religion per se. Excuse me Sir Religion plays a very important role in building any culture, everywhere. If you recall a very famous speech of Quaide Azam he had said that we Muslims differ from Hindus in everything from our births to our burial and from our toilet disciplines to oyr eating etiquette. Of course Geography, old traditions , social and political institution all contribute in building up a particular culture. As for Islam it gives us basic guidelines and leaves the rest to human imagination. Just look at the Muslim shower in ur toilets these days; it is religion which has given it to us and with new inventions it has taken this shape and is now one of the worlds top selling bathroom item being manufactured by multinational companies. Having traveled through many Muslim lands from East to West my observation is that they all adhere to basics given by the Quran and Sunnah but there are local adaptations in dress, food, marriage and death ceremonies and in other societal etiquette. I wish your channel all the best and hope it will bring in fresh air for its tired viewers who are now fed up with all sorts of useless political talk shows ad nauseam.
