Ummm...well, I use xdm on one of my machines :)

I didn't get sucked into the gnome or kde worlds on that computer.

That said, similar to hardware, X11 coverage has dwindled in general.
There's now only two X11 related objectives:

- install X11

- configure *dm

Each has a weight of two (2) so there will only be two (2) questions on each
topic.

Besides, the xdm-config file is really an Xresources file.  If you learn
that, you will have learned Xresources, too.  You can't say the same about
the gdm.conf file.


It's actually a little sad for me.  Earlier in my career I worked for HP
porting X11, Motif and CDE to their Xterminals.  Plus some other X11
development (add-ons to Tcl/Tk, for example).  The source code was horrific
but there were some gems in there.  And X11 is a fairly cool technology under
the hood.  However, more and more, I'm finding that a lot of people don't
really understand how it works.

Anyway, I'll stop before I start mentioning young'uns or something ;)
