It seems that my printer manufacturers, HP and Lexmark, have decided to
reduce the amount of resources they have to throw at developing and
maintaining cross-platform printer administration software (eg. Markvision
and JetAdmin) by rewriting everything in Java.
To the inevitable Java drawbacks of poor performance and conflicting Java
versions, they have added poor user interface and lack of
functionality. And you still have to configure and maintain one for each
different manufacturer.
Has anyone developed a nice printer administration tool with a decent user
interface and functionality, which uses standard and/or private SNMP MIBs
to monitor and change printer characteristics?
Just wishing.
