Hi,
i'm trying to print from mac os9.1 via lpr, and not having a lot of luck.
there's a desktop printer utility, which you use to create the printer -
select lpr from the list, give it an ip address, and a port name, and hit
verify - fails to verify (no error code). Create the printer anyway, and it
appears on the desktop. This should create a printer that prints via lpr on
the unix box. Attempt to print a file, and I get an error:
"the LPR Printer ... could not be found. Please check that the printer is
not turned off or busy. -8885"
Now, I realise that this is perhaps the worlds best error description. Some
more detail may assist...
redhat 7.1 kernel 2.4.2 (RH kernel)
LPRng is version 3.8.0
ifhp is version 3.4.7
printcap looks like:
lj2200:|HP LaserJet 2200 Series PS:\
:sh:rp=auto1:rm=192.168.0.240:\
:af=acct:lf=log:\
:sd=/var/spool/lpd/%P:\
:ifhp=model=hp2100:\
:if=/usr/libexec/filters/ifhp:
Printing from samba works a treat...
make sure that it's listening on the port:
netstat -na | grep 515
tcp 0 0 0.0.0.0:515 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN
and lpd is running... (/etc/init.d/lpd status)
I don't see any error messages appear in lpd's log files, can't see any
attempts to connect...
has anyone had any experience printing to a linux box from a mac? Have i
missed something fundamentally easy here?
I don't want to use netatalks papd wrapper...
Thanks,
Chris Herrmann
