Here is the basic situation. The problem follows, as well as the failed
solutions:

I have an Epson Stylus Color 600 inkjet printer, that can print in 3
basic resolutions: 360 x 360, 720x720 and 1440x720.

This printer is attached to a broadband router, is therefore configured
as a prefilter queue to the remote printer.

It is possible & trivial to set up this configuration using either the
tool "yast2" provided with SuSE 7.3 or lprsetup.

And the FIRST printer I set up works OK.

When I setup the the second and third prefilter printers, the trouble
starts.

Using the file "printcap", attached, printouts to the first printer
(360) come out OK; those to the second (720) and third (1440x720)
printers get pre-processed by gs, but disappear.

Using the largely by hand created file "printcap_working" using a
funnel printer (to bypass exclusive use of the remote queue), all three
printers output to the printer, but all 3 printers retain the original
spools files and give the status out that they are trying to print
(first printout submitted) or that the connection to the printer has
failed.

In my opinion, if I knew what I was doing, I should be able to get the
first version of the printcap file working without a funnel queue. But
if I knew what I was doing, I could equally get the second printcap
working properly.

After reconfiguring, re-installing the spooler software, trying one
option after the other, I must admit I do not know what I am doing.

So here I am, and I need help!
