Disable output on the HP box and look at the content of the spool
file from a subsequent print request. Specifically, check the
preamble. The preamble may be causing LPRNG to invoke a filter you
don't really want to use.

lpq -vvvvv on the Linux box should confirm which filter(s) are being
used.

If the filters invoked are identical for both printers, then the
problem is in the "router".
