Yeah, I mixed up 2.6.23 and 2.6.24. By now we have gcov-kernel patches for 
2.6.23 in the CVS repository. Patch version 2.6.23 does not cleanly apply to 
2.6.24 rc7 though. Note that a gcov-kernel patch for 2.6.24 will only be made 
available after 2.6.24 goes live.

I tested the gcov-kernel patch for Linux 2.6.23 on both s390 and i386 platform 
and in both cases, the kernel would compile and boot with the kernel patch 
applied. What platform/compiler/distribution/memory size are you using?
