you can run a X server without windowmanager, than all your applications 
don't have any controls, 
if you start your application by default in full size modus, you got what you 
need.

i've got a suse 7.1 (sorry, i'm a very new "terminalist")
there it works like this;
the script startx starts the x-server and the script:
/home/jochen/.xinitrc
there you have to comment the line
exec $WINDOWMANAGER
