Not sure what system you're running, but FWIW on debian it's started by /etc/init.d/kdm. Also, it should be listed in /etc/X11/default-display-manager Though I doubt that xonfigurator would have altered that. Seems like an x configuration error. Look in the Xserver logs to see where it's ending up. g
