LTSP does NOT use telnet, it uses XDMCP.

There is a lts_ssh package, though I have not tried it.

XDMCP cannot be used over SSH since it uses UDP instead of TCP. So, if
you use X-forwarding over SSH, there is no way to get a login prompt
from a display manager.
