Hi everybody, first I want to tell you all I'm sorry if I will tell a lot of wrong things in this mail but I'm really new to Linux and I don?t know anyone who knows it and also my English is not so good. Looking to my company structure I started thinking a diskless solution could be something companies should give more consideration to. So I decided I want learn who to develop a diskless network and I decided it have to be completely based on freeware software? so Linux is the chosen one !
Now I?ll tell you what?s in my mind so you can tell me if I?m wrong or not: I want it to be a server based structure, the diskless workstations has to be stupid machines, the only thing I want them to do is to boot to LAN, look to the server and after that I want server take control, ask the user login and password and after the authentication loads inside itself the user?s profile (like it do using Alt+F1, Alt+F2, ecc?). The only difference I want is that the output (monitor) is not local but the one of the remote computer and the input (mouse and keyboard) is not local but the one of the remote computer. After I read a few of this project?s documentation what I understand is that you do not consider the diskless as a complete idiot machine but you load in its memory the OS and in the server?s PC you create references for all remote machines. Am I completely wrong ? Am I looking for something different from LTSP ? Thank you, Simone Tommasi __________________________________________________________________ Abbonati a Tiscali!
