Evgeny, I had a mysterious crash problem that only happened occasionally (found out it was caused by run away Netscape sessions) that I diagnosed by running top once a minute on the server and saving the output into a log file. Crude, but it led me to the problem since I had a minute by minute snapshot of what was going on.
