Brian, hi. This is Gideon from Symbio Technologies.

I'd just like to echo Jim's sentiment, and also to point out that by
buying either thin-client, you are directly supporting the LTSP. The
differences in the two workstations are as follows:

1) Obviously the form factor / asthetics. The J125 is black, the
SYM-1120 is blue and silver and can be more easily mounted and
physically secured. It can also be placed horizontally or vertically.

2) Both have the functionality you need in an LTSP client, but the
SYM-1120 provides a bit more flexibility in that it has a SDRAM slot
that can support up to 512MB RAM, in case you would like to use the
SYM-1120 for LOCAL_APPS. (64 MB RAM included)

These are probably the main differences. As Jim says, the choice is
basically yours, but in either case you support the LTSP. At Symbio
Technologies, our mission is to promote the LTSP by working directly
with large thin-client manufacturers to produce a variety of
thin-clients that work with LTSP.

Our SYM-1120 also comes in a Gigabit Ethernet form (which we will make
available soon through the website). Very soon, we will also have
several other options:

1) Integrated LCDs: These LCDs have the motherboard built in, so you
don't need a seperate box. This is very clean and easy to secure
physically.

2) Wireless Diskless: Thin-client terminals with a wireless link back
to the server.

3) More standard options: We are making a concerted effort to give you
as many choices for LTSP clients as possible. Different asthetics to
choose from, different form factors, etc.

Our goal is to complement the fantastic work of this entire LTSP group
by helping to promote the effort by making more hardware available. We
hope you will consider buying our thin clients versus making your own so
that:

1) We can continue to supply large volumes at great prices
2) We can continue to promote the LTSP in the eyes of the manufacturers
that we work with, so they see the market in LTSP and continue to devote
resources to creating more LTSP-compliant machines.
3) The larger the volumes, the cheaper the prices. The more orders we
get, the lower we can make our prices. So, the LTSP community will have
the hardware they need at very cheap prices and can focus on enhancing
the software.

I hope this clears things up. If you have any more questions, feel free
to email me directly. (My email is in the signature below)

-Gideon

PS: We are positioning our online store to be a one-stop-shop for all
your Linux thin-client networking needs. So for example, you don't need
to go elsewhere for monitors, keyboards, mice, etc. We make very little
money (if any!) off of these accessories, but we offer them more for
your convenience. Check us out at: http://www.thesymbiont.com

Simple answer. Purchasing a Jammin-125 from DisklessWorkstations.Com
directly supports the LTSP project. If you are enjoying LTSP, and
the J125 has the features that you need, then the choice should
be easy.

If, on the other hand the Symbiont 1120 works better for you, then
fine, buy that. But, please let us know why you like that thin
client better.

Thanks,
Jim McQuillan
