 or Win (IE or FireBird) boxen. Running thru a linux firewall ...

 Is it possible you have a hosts file list somewhere, sending it back to lo?
Seems the problem is pared down to the linux box ... seems something somewhere 
is filtering/blocking that particular URL, on that particular machine.
