Guys,
could you run "set | grep -i utf" and tell me if you're running with
LANG, LOCALE, et cetera, set to en_US.UTF-8? If so, can you try
running
OOo with LANG=en_US and let us know if it fixes it?

LANG and LANGVAR were en_US.UTF-8 so I set them both to en_US. My shell experience is limited, all I had to do is LANG=en_US, right? I did this on the client and then started up OOo. Didn't make a noticeable difference. Is there a different env var that OOo uses when it starts up?

BTW, sluggish is an understatement. My mouse cursor and menus are so slow I have to use hotkeys to get out of OOo. I have noticed that once a selected menu has fully loaded, the mouse and that menu work normally. Move to another menu and it starts all over again. I assume your clients' behavior is similar.

Is it possible that the tools being used to redraw the menus in OOo aren't being loaded locally? Perhaps the clients has to go out to the server to get info on how to redraw the menu. I only say this because I noticed that OOo apps on the server don't exhibit this behavior.

I recall there being three installation modes for OOo: server, client, and standalone? I'm not sure what K12LTSP-4 default to, nor do I know how to check it. Could the OOo install mode be creating this problem?
