First guess: Your external network now has the same IP address range as the 
internal one? This could confuse the box a bit. What happens when you startup 
the linux box with external networking disconnected and then try to boot up 
the terminal? (This can cause startup to hang for about 30 seconds while 
trying to retrieve an address via DHCP on the external network interface)
