Back again with another weird one;

I'm working with Mandrake 10.1 and LTSP 4.1. I've set up a test environment using only one thin-terminal at a time. With that single terminal logged into the server in graphic mode, I'm seeing the CPU hitting 99% usage for 'X' when I use 'top' to check the server load.

This seems to occur when the terminal is idle - ie; when no one is using it and this CPU load occurs within one hour of the terminal being left idle. Is this some sort of runaway process occurring? Or is there something I'm missing?

The server is a P4 2.8Ghz. system with 512MB's of ram and even though there are other processes currently running, no single process is using more than 0.5% of the CPU, since none of the others are being used during these tests.

Has anyone else seen this behavior? Does anyone know of something I should be investigating? The server itself is running X, but just sitting at the login panel. When the CPU hits that level of usage, it looks like a system crash, although top keeps updating the various services and processes that are running. The only way to reboot the server is to reset the system, and I've never had to do that for this server.

Any help would be welcome.
