> Do you know for sure that your rc script is being run ? "ps" reveals that much (showing mrcvd running), and also I have run it from the command line, or by ssh-ing in.
The behaviour is the exact same in the two cases when running ps etc., except that MuNAS on the server won't forward sound to the client if the client was launched from a shell somehow (whether it is by rc, or by me), but it all works if the Since it is so product-specific I should really ask at MuNAS. However I was thinking I could get some formal description about the differences between init and shell first (you have probably given me that already, "only difference is whether you want it to respawn"). mrcvd is run in two contexts (init and shell), works in one and not the other... what are the differences between the two contexts? My one theory is that this might be some copy-protection in MuNAS (it could obviously inspect the process tree to se if it was launched directly by init and refuse to operate if not), that's my one theory and I was just looking for others. I can't very well launch a shell to inspect the environment from init, since that, well, launches a shell, destroying the state that I wanted to inspect. And also it could only inspect the env vars, while there may be other issues. Anyway, it was just the purist in me trying to streamline my setup a little. It doesn't matter much, really. But thanks for your time! *sigh* If I ever pick up kernel hacking as a learning excersize, it will surely be an ALSA driver for standard NAS. // Dag Sverre ------------------------------------------------------- SF email is sponsored by - The IT Product Guide Read honest & candid reviews on hundreds of IT Products from real users.
