thanks all for your great ideas and help :-) i know it might hang the CPU or the memory (network... not too sure) but i have it in my head for some time and i must try it out. i know ALL of you can relate :-)
i have two test machines: 1. a Compaq P2 430MHz & 64MB RAM + internal i810 VGA & 4MB RAM 2. an Old P1 233MHz & 64MB RAM + S3 VGA & 1MB RAM i let build_x4_cfg detect the primery card and then i hard code (for now) the secondry VGA card and the usb mouse and keyboard. i have some extra S3 and Cirrus Logic cards, so i try to plug them in in various combinations togather with the already working vga cards. the Compaq main bios is limited in a way that it will not allow to have two vga cards and one must be disabled for it to start. even thou, i get two cards listed when i issue lspci. but when i startx, the auto-detection recognize the an invalid pci bus id and i'm unable to load a second vga driver. (even when i hard code it after figuring out the bus is from lspci) on the other machine (P1) the motherboard bios is two old to read the second vga card's bios into memory and run it. i read on google (i mean the internet ;-) that some one copied the vga bios from the card's memory and run it separately after the kernel was up. but i'm not sure i'm up for that ;-) also, i'm not sure how to initiate a secondary X so the other "screen" loads with kdm (for example) maybe i'll try to make it work on a stand alone machine before i try to make it work on an LTSP terminal ? (thinking out load) thanks all for your great ideas and help :-) On 7/23/07, Nadav Kavalerchik <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > yes, that one got me started in the first place. > > On 7/23/07, Martin Woolley <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > > On Monday 23 July 2007 09:58, Nadav Kavalerchik wrote: > > > Hi :-) > > > > > > i've tried to install another video card on one of our test terminals plus > > > adding a usb card so i can have two video cards two keyboards and two mice > > > connected to a single terminal. and hopefully (one day) be able to figure > > > out how to have two students sit together and work with different screens > > > (keyboards and mice) on the same machine. > > > > > > i've hacked the startx a little bit to have it recognize the video cards > > > and input devices with the help of : > > > http://blog.chris.tylers.info/index.php?/archives/14-Multiseat-X-Under-X11R > > >6.97.0.html i've set the first screen and then the second screen... > > > BUT, i got stuck when the old P1 (and some times a P2) machine could not > > > load the second video card's bios > > > i've tried several old cards from various vendors with no success. > > > > > > any of you guys have any idea ? > > > > I wish that I had the time to fidddle with cool stuff like this.
