Firefox is a bit of a ram hog at the best of times and it varies hugely. The way I (ab)use it involves holding open up to 100 tabs at a time. Currently, it's using 500MB of RAM on its own. If people stick to a few tabs things will work much better. This is really just a fact of computing life though. Extensions and Plugins, particularly flash can add lots of extra resource demands. I use the flashblock extension to cut down on the number of flash adverts in those tabs. It's well worth considering flashblock for general deployment, both on thin clients and on a thin client server.
