I have a Netgear GS108 and a GS742T. The latter pushes or pulls 500 mbps from a fileserver on a regular basis without complaint. Of the former I have a pair; one was formerly in the role that the larger switch took over. It performed flawlessly, but my need for ports grew and I needed vlans as well. The other worked in an LTSP environment for over a year with four clients that did almost nothing but flash video. Two of the clients were 100mbit and the other two were gigabit. I tested some fullscreen video on the gigabit clients and found they could pull 600mbps each without a hiccup (to a maximum of 1000 combined, obviously). So I haven't tested any of the Netgears in a large LTSP environment, but I can say for sure that mine have performed perfectly with at least a couple of heavily loaded ports. On the other hand, we have a GS116 that we use for Windows deployment at work, and we end up having to power cycle it once in a while. We're not sure if it just doesn't get along with the Cisco network or if it's inherently flawed, but it's not something I've ever seen on my other Netgears. For us it's not a big deal, but it would get annoying fast in an environment with a lot of users, such as LSP. db ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ThinkGeek and WIRED's GeekDad team up for the Ultimate GeekDad Father's Day Giveaway.
