I will definitely give that a try, before I abandon that card.
On a positive note, I brought in my laptop which is running dual boot
Win7/Ubuntu 12.04 and it had no problem booting into the Edubuntu LTSP
environment with it. Baddabing.
It seems like, indeed, my issue stemmed from an unsupported NIC driver.
(The initramfs environment on the LTSP box had no driver for the thin
client's NIC.)
