Aloha, I haven't played much with this or any other cdripper, but... I recall that default permissions on my cdrom drive have caused me trouble in the past. Making the cdrom chmod 777 when combined with an appropriate set of permissions in the fstab file fixed all my troubles without having to suid any programs. For my own purposes, this was a better solution than fixing all the programs. Essentially the only security change I had to worry about was physical access to the cdrom drive as the software remained the same. Could this or something similar work for cdparanoia? {I don't have a cd burner, or I'd try it myself. }
